    I like the Mussel and steak bar http://www.musselandsteakbar.com/ in the grassmarket, they generally do very good food at a great price. Another nice place is Fishers http://www.fishersbistros.co.uk/ , a slightly more upmarket restaurant, I had the best fish and chips ever there.

    You should also check out Mother India http://www.motherindiaglasgow.co.uk/index.php?action=cms.edin , if you like Indian food this is about as good as you'll find, plus it is unbelievably cheap. Also, Thai Orchid http://www.thaiorchid.uk.com/ is a brilliant Thai restaurant, amazing staff and the freshest ingredients, I can't recommend it highly enough.

    I've heard that the Albanach 197 High Street is nice and there's the Sheep Heid Inn 43-45 The Causeway Duddingston where you can play a game of skittles too, if you want to.

    Yes.

    Avoid Royal Mile, run of the mill temple bar tourist fodder.

    Kalpana for veg food...10/10.

    David Bann a close second for good veg food if a little up its own arse.

    The Kitchen for upmarket food that is tasty..exp but worth it.

    Steak = Steak. Enough said.

    +1 for Mother India.

    If you like Thai food, Ting Thai is quite good and cheap. That's on George IV. (I'm not sure if that was just open for the Fringe though).

    Mum's on Forrest Road is nice for burgers or a bit of mash, comfort food.

    My two favourite places in Edinburgh are Wedgewood on Canongate and Cafe St Honore in a lane between Queen street and George Street.

    www.wedgwoodtherestaurant.co.uk
    www.cafesthonore.com/

    Both do very nice good seasonal food.

    Though for a Haggis pie or a Yum-Yum you cannot beat the Piemaker on South Bridge.
