Woodcare - Paint stripping a door & removing residue

I am stripping white paint from a door which I am hoping to varnish. The thing is, and I've noticed this when I tried this before, when the strips of paint are removed it can sometimes leave areas of discolouration. I assume this is a resin or residue left behind from then paint.

Is there a method or substance that can remove this and properly treat the wood?

Even after I sand down the wood some discolouration appears. I have a tin of Nitromors there should I use this?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
