A friend of mine is working on a television documentary about the Ford Marina Plant in Cork and is looking to get shots of old Ford cars/tractors that would have been assembled in the plant - Cortinas, Escorts, Prefects, Sierras etc.

If anyone in the area wants to participate and get their car on TV, or knows someone who might be interested, please PM me.

Try www.irishescortclub.com for some potential info on the cork plant. I think one of the guys there recently (past year or two) got his escort's interior re-upholstered by an ex-Marina employee, so maybe there's a few leads there also.

Lots of registrations of Cork assembled Fords about alright, as for the cars, probably not as many..

yep hard to find a real one sometimes. They are out there though, look out for chassis plate numbers that look like theyve been scratched with a rusty nail (they will state "assembled in Ireland" on them.

Do not rely on the registration number alone, no doubt there will be crys of "foul" if a "ringer is used!

There was pics floating around here a while back from the old plant. Maybe in the 'Forgotten Dealers' thread?

Reminds me of a time when we used to see those silver Gauranteed Irish stickers on the backs of some Ford cars (& other brands too).

I wonder if any of them have survived in situ?

The Cortinas had them in the rear view window. I remember them well.

I think it was '84 so if it was a MkI it was probably built there although I have it in my head that they were manufactured in Spain.

EDIT: It was '84. This would make for interesting reading.

EDIT 2: According to Wikipedia the MkI was manufactured in the following so would not have come from the Cork plant:

    Almussafes, Spain
    Dagenham, United Kingdom
    Cologne, Saarlouis, Germany

    Mk3. :)

Not a chance it was Cork then but would have come from one of the three mentioned above, most likely the UK plant. ;)

Was just wondering why it had Ireland on it though? Never seen that before? :)
