BMW New car discount

    Hi all,
Was wondering if anybody could give me an idea what level of discount might be available to buy a new 3 or 5 series for January for cash with no trade in?
I am not a great haggler and have found in the past that BMW dealers have been pretty poor at giving much off so wondered if in this economy they would be better?
I don't know what margins they work off. Would 5% discount on list be reasonable?

What's so hard about asking "what's the best you could do on a straight cash deal?".

Just work out exactly what you want and do the rounds of the dealerships for the best price. :)

Both the 3 and 5 series models are very new, and you'll be buying at the busiest time of year for a dealer, I wouldn't be expecting much of any discount. If you're really concerned about a discount, now is the time to buy.
    For November delivery?

5% in a retail sale would be a decent discount off a 3 or 5 series. Dealer makes a bit of money, but they don't have that much more of a margin.

Biggest issue is that there are probably VRT changes coming, but nobody is sure by how much so they might not be able to give you a definite price.

Based on a bit of guess work (VRT going from 16% to 19%) you'd be looking at an increase of €1,264 on a 520d SE Auto before any extra's.

You won't get one for Nov delivery now anyway unless you're flexible on colour etc.

I wouldn't expect any more than 3/4% of list price. That's doing very well too.

BMW garages must be the worst to give discount I remember my parents wer looking at a 520d in 2007 brand new no trade in retail was 50,400 euro from what I can remember my dad was use to getting good discounts the BMW salesman said the best he could do for cash was 50,000 needless to say we didn't buy the BMW his loss as we would of bought it if we got the discount. However now is a very different story ring around some BMW garage will be stuck to shift a new car. It's a pity your holding out till January as if you bought a new one now youd get some deal as garage would be looking to up there sales figures for this year. I'd imagine you should expect about 5 percent discount if your lucky but you mightened get that off in January. My parent always buy new cars late in the year August at least as you do get a way better deal garages are desperate to sell the only thing you loose is the 13 reg on the car but are up a lot of money.

I have contacted 3 dealerships with my requirements and called to one.
All have promised to look at the figures for me and call me back.
I am still waiting a couple of days later.

Don't bother ringing, emailing or texting. Call in and show them you are serious.

They may become serious too in looking for your business.

I was not aware that vrt was defo going up.
None of the dealers mentioned this.
I have been given a trade in price on my current BMW from the garage I bought it from but not a cash price if I can sell privately.
Thanks for the info re percentages from those in trade.

Very true. If you're going to spend in the region of €50K the least you can do is call into the showroom and talk face to face with the salesman so at least he knows he's not wasting his time.

With the uncertainty in how much VRT is going to increase it is very unlikely you will a commited price now from a dealer. You might be better off talking percentages with dealers rather than exact amounts in this instance.

As others have said if you want the best price you have to do the legwork and sit in front of them, you won't get it over the phone or by sitting at a computer.

I know ROR mentioned a rough idea of a price increase, but from talking to someone in BMW recently, he felt the price of a 520d SE Auto would increase by two grand approx.

As others have mentioned, I'd be surprised if a BMW dealer will commit to a price for the new year, as this is very uncertain at the minute.
