I'm not around the area too much but Good Counsel P&P in Rathfarnham Dublin sell them for sure.

Haven't seen them in years but if you can get your hands on a brand called 'Tornado' then you're laughing. They were as soft a P&P ball as you'll get.

    Ah brings back sweet memories.

    Ah Commandos

The lenghts we used to go to in order to kill them...in the Oven

Leave out in the rains for weeks,

    Happy memories....

Think I remember seeing some in Halpennys the last time I was in there maybe 4 months ago. Never used one as far as I can remember though.
Are they supposed to drop and stop?

Not too sure how they would hold up on a golf course, but they were a treasured possession on a p&p course in my youth. They were THE drop & stop golf ball of my teenage years :D

This is a serious nostalgia thread! Commando's were the ball of choice for cash starved juniors when i was one, with all the rich kids playing with Dunlop 65's, then dunlop DDH's, then Titliest Balata's, then oh happy day, Pro V's....

They do stop, much as a brick would stop if you threw it at a green.

As I said above Tornado balls were much softer and these were the balls that we all craved when I was playing. It seemed only the best players used them. I know the guys who holds the record in Good Counsel used them.

They were rare and I've only ever had a few in my time.

    Cool username by the way.

Edit: check this oldie thread out..... http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055311223

When I was a kid playing P&P, the holy grail was a "weiskopf" ball.
    Anyone remember them?
I don't think you could buy them, even back in the 80's

I remember being a member of Glenville back in the day. They released Centenary Commandos with the PPUI & Glenville crest on them. Lovely things
You could get them in the clubhouse, and they were given out as prizes, but the best place to get them was the OOB right of the 2nd, 4th & 5th holes!

I remember Argos used to sell "+" for about €5

    Long time ago now

I used to collect golf balls, I have a Weiskopf, a Tornado, plenty of Commandos and many other old, soft, one piece and "crap" golfballs in my collection.

I would say the softest balls I've come across are the E. Feather and the Golden Arm.

Penfold - Bond's preferred ball! I remember finding a few and never playing with them because of Goldfinger :D

Complete opposite to my memories - they were considered ****e balls, generally wouldn't play with them!

Why were/are they considered good for pitch and putt??
