It's the last part of my orientation today but I was wondering if I could skip it. What happens in it? Do I get assignment due dates? Or is it just a brief talk on the course as a whole? It's just that I'd like to go home this weekend because there'd be no point in getting home about midnight tonight.

Go home! You won't get any info about deadlines until lectures.

Overwiew of course - it's interesting but not crucial. You will get all the crucial info next week off individual lecturers.
