Where are you living instead ? As in what areas? I'm from London and don't know Dublin at all. Currently I'm staying with family till I get myself sorted.

It would be ideal to live an equal distance between the city and DCU. Currently looking at Dublin 7, Dublin 3 - Cabra, Phobsboro, East Wall areas, but is that still too much of a mission in to DCU for say a 9am lecture?

Do people tend to live closer to DCU like Dublin 9?

ALSO, I did find a nice place on Daft on Glengarriff Parade Dublin 7, RIGHT by Mountjoy Prison. Thought on this one??? :D

Most of those are fine for DCU, probably a half hour walk or 10 minute bus ride at the most.

While I would say that a lot of students live close enough to DCU, I know there are some that have to get a Bus Éireann bus to commute longer distances, e.g out of county students.

A lot of students rent houses in very close proximity to the college (Shanowen, Collins Avenue) and around Santry and Glasnevin or even Drumcondra and Phisborough, the latter two being perfect locations if you're looking for a midway point between DCU and city centre!

I live in Drumcondra and find in the perfect midway point between town and DCU. The main Drumcondra road has tons of buses that go to each - it's 10 mins to DCU and 10mins to town and you'll never wait more than 10mins for a bus to come along. Walking wise it's about 30mins to O'Connell St and maybe 40mins to DCU (I live in the lower end of Drumcondra).

My sister is currently living in Phibsboro, and has 2 or 3 of the DCU buses going past her house, and she's close to town! Drumcondra has a good bit of accommodation for students, as you have DCU, Marino and St. Pat's nearby.
Dublin 3 might be a small bit more out of the way, there is one bus that goes fairly direct to DCU, the 104, it stops at Shanard, which means you just walk down past Shanowen onto Collins Avenue!

To help you choose, it might help if you know what buses can get you to DCU. The 4, 9, 11 and 13 all stop on the Ballymun Road, while the 1 and the 104 stop at Shanard.
    Good luck house hunting! :D
