UPC Digital availability

My parents in Sutton have UPC cable sadly not digital and the siginal is very bad most days. Last year UPC dug up their road to upgrade the cabling but still no digital tv. Houses 1 minutes drive from their house can get UPC Digital.

Does anyone on here know when Digital TV will be available in the Offington area of Sutton?. UPC don't have any idea and one of the sales girls on the chat facility on the UPC website claimed my parents have MMDS which is not the case.

There's actually a new Talk to UPC section on the forum. You're probably better off looking for an answer there.

They could switch to MMDS which may give them more channels than basic analogue. MMDS should also be available there. There are catches to MMDS and you would need to research the benefits of the current system vs MMDS digital.

If you only have 18 or so channels, most of them are available for free with a combination of Saorview and FreeSAT. There are definitely better options out there than 17 channels. Even Sky's basic package (does not give normal discovery channel) may offer more.

Some people will actually be on Communal MMDS and not know it. However that would be more in provincial towns and I wouldn't imagine it would occur in Dublin?

I wouldn't recommend anyone to take up MMDS at all until ComReg clear up once and for all the uncertainty over whether there will still be MMDS after April 2014.

It could happen anywhere if there are issues with head ends and frequency planning. It gets UPC out of a hole sharpish. There are pockets of analogue only cable in Galway too.
