Hi looking for my first road bike in the price range above. I am currently looking at the Giant defy 2 2012 with full tiagra groupset. Anyone have any ideas of a similar bike
    Thanks

If you're not on the bike to work scheme and because we're heading into winter, buy a triban 3 for 300 sterling up in decathlon in Belfast , look up the reviews it got in magazines.

Sell it secondhand in march and then you can get something dearer if you still feel you need it.

I bought one for my son and it ticks a hell of a lot of boxes for the money, even compared to yokes retailing here for 1000 euro.

The triban 3 sounds like a great yoke. Only downside is I hear they are now mostly sold out of popular sizes - I'm not sure what the 2013 model year will bring.

Have you decided if you want to buy online or do you want to use a local shop? Better value is to be had online, but you need to know what you are doing if you go down that route. If you are buying in a shop, my advice would be to shop around and see what's available - there are bargains to be had at this time of year.

f I was buying online at that price, I'd go for one of these: link
but that might not be a good idea for a starter bike ...
