A friend has taken to asking me for parenting advice because I have been through the torment of the difficult teenage years with my young's and am now out the other side:) Any way I know people here recommended books they found helpful and I would like to buy her one so any recommendations her child is only ten bus is as tall as her and has begun clash a lot with her and his dad.

    Thanks

I like a lot of David Colemans stuff. Kinda helps you see where the kid might be coming from, and how best to deal with the problems from that perspective.

And the teen one too is fantastic, easy read and has cartoon strip examples, really great books! Good for working on relationships, discipline and how to connect with kids who just grunt a response!

I'd also suggest this book, even tho the child is ten but it gIves great insight into the pre teen and teen brain:

There are thousands of books about parenting babies and toddlers but next to none about teenagers, maybe because the parents have given up on the books by that stage.:)

One I did have was called 'Get out of my life, but first drive me and Alex into town' or something like that. I enjoyed reading it but can't remember how much practical use it was.

Totally agree with this first one, its excellent. I was actually given it in work as some of the techniques they use are great for dealing with difficult people in all walks of life. Its really given me some great tips on how to talk to my teenager, things I wouldn't even think about like body language and the like.
