    Hey folks,

A mate of mine is selling some heifers from the farmyard and i'm having a look at them on Saturday.
They're around the 250kgs mark and are March/April born sucklers by a limo bull.
What sort of money could I expect to pay for them?
I'll be weighing them if we can agree a price per kg and I decide to make the plunge...

According to the rag this week, the average price paid last week for 250kg heifers was €555. Page 57.

Cheers Black Smoke, seems a touch steep to me but we'll wait & see...
(P.S. I referenced your comment above in another thread, no offence meant)

The general rule of thumb is that you double the weight to give you the price ... so if they weight 250kgs I would expect €500 each!
Let us know how you get on!

I've seen some 18 month old black Lm heifers 370 kgs going in the marts for about €550

ok they were out of fr cows & slightly poorish (1 owner obviously a dairy farmer tight on grass) but would grade r in time

if I was looking for stock I would certainly buy these before weanlings

€2/kg seems right for black stock.. Tidy Ch stock would be making a bit more, €2.10/€2.20 per kg depending on the quality..

Selling from the yard can be difficult.. While we estimate the weight we'd have tightly calculated the cost per head and ensure we have our target margin as well..

I've recently purchased a weighing scales and I've bought a few cattle by weighing the animals and then agreeing a price per kilo, both parties have been happy with this arrangement to date.
