California - Car Rental (Insurance)

I'm renting a car in California on my holidays in a few weeks. It's my understanding that in California the Car Rental companies don't provide personal liability insurance. Does anybody have any personal experience of this/know what the deal is with insurance there? Thanks

Car Rental places will have standard insurance on their rentals and will try and upsell you to purchase all sorts of rental insurance. Have a look at a few rental sites and see what their policies are. If in doubt, you can always call them or discuss it when you go to pick up the keys. They have no problem adding on any insurance.
