Hopefully I'll be having a look at this Passat tomorrow or Saturday, anyone have any opinions on it.

Great spec but seems a liitle over price to me. Would others agree? Hopefully that means plenty of room for bargaining. Not sure how much warranty will be given or if a service history is available.

strong money for an 8 year old passat no? looks well spec'd for a passat but even at that is it worth it?

€6500 would probably go much further in a mondeo or vectra etc...

does look like a lovely example of a passat, unusual not to see windy windows and cardboards seats but i couldnt part with 6k for it.

€5800 at a push. It is a nice example if the mileage stacks up. Definitely a candidate for a full history check though. No mention of NCT either

Full history check will most certainly be done if it gets that far. Noticed the lack of an nct but if all else is ok I'm sure I could use that to knock a few quid off the price and put it through myself.

Realistically I'd be looking to get it for 5.5k or less.

Check when the timing belt was last done. If it's due, it's always a good one for getting a few quid off.

I'd be getting them to put it through the NCT if it hasn't got one. Definitely wouldn't be buying without it

Not a factor here I'm afraid, it has just been done.

Id be looking on selling my brothers 08 140 2l tdi in Jan and getting around 8 for it.
Why pay 5.5 for an old tax old shape passat? Sure its got leather etc and its a nice car but too dear to tax and I think youl loose 1.5k on that in a year. Would make more sense to get an 08 at 8 in a few months and pay lower tax, better economy, better car, more power same depreciation etc.

It's a UK import but no mention of a service history in the advert so a verified service history check is a must given that it is not relatively high mileage for it's year. Price wise it is high but unfortunately VAG diesels are asking crazy money these days.

I prefer this shape passat, and it is a better car.

That ones a lovely spec, but about 1.5 k over priced.

hmm, 2005, phone kit and 60k miles. Beware, these wagons hide the miles very well.

I read it as 108k miles rather than km. If it is only 108k km then without hard proof I'd run away.

Im only after realising the 2nd time looking that it is the B5 model. Id say it is 108miles being an import

Looks very nice but as stated very expensive though

I knew by looking at the wheels as the Irish highline had a different wheel..

Would have thought it would have come with fog lights though, I get very sad when I see a good car without them - I know it makes no sense but that is how I think!!

Nothing says high spec like extra lights :D

    ......Plus it has a towbar:mad:

Irish Highlines also had that terrible fake wood in the dashboard. UK spec models got the nicer metal effect.

Reason I can't get a 08 model is funds, looking for something with a max budget of 6k. With regards the old shape its more reliable model then the earlier B6's that I could get for a similar price from what I can gather and the car seems well spec'd even if it is overpriced. As I have already said I would be hoping to pay at most 5.5k for this.

Just to update this, viewed it today. It is 108000 miles, comes with a full service history and nct until November 2013. Dealer was willing to accept 6k but can't see him budging much more, didn't seem bothered if he sold it or not. Still think it's overpriced and would need to knock another few hundred off if I was to invest.

do the mike brewer? from wheeler dealers approach, turn up with 150e and say the car is nice but it has no fog lights and a tow bar and state clearly that you have 150e cash and show it to him then you will probably get it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,544 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Nah, the Mike Brewer approach is haggle €100 off the price, then spend €1000 on buying a special set of foglights that will surely add value to the car, have Ed China spend two days fitting them, then sell the car and make no profit then rabble on about how it's not all about the money and keeping one of these beautiful cars on the road is worth all the effort.

    waaaay off topic!
