Whats peoples opinions on the Samsung Galaxy note 10.1 tablet? Argos had it for €480 at the moment. I was thinking of getting the Asus Transformer 300 but them came across this for around the same price.

Hoping to pick one up this weekend.

The ability to mark-up PDF's and word documents is a big plus for me. Apart from that it looks a quality all-round tablet. The front-facing speakers are meant to be excellent for watching movies/listening to music.

The drawback for me would be Touchwiz, but I'll get CM10 on it straight away.

I would really be interested in what people have to say about this too. I was initially getting the Nexus 7 but reaslised the screen was too small since I already have a Galaxy s3 for on the go browsing etc. I am looking more for something to use at home in the evenings. So I then more or less made up my mind on the Asus Transformer Pad 300. But then I came accross the Note 10.1 and now I am completely confused. I dont know which one to pick. Anyone have anything to say about either?

How hard is it to root?

Don't think it's difficult to root.

It has received mixed reviews. The main complaints have been the screen (which is only decent by today's standards) and the build quality (which is typical Samsung plastic).

Check out mobiletechreview channel on Youtube. They have an in-depth review of the 10.1 tab as well as comparisons with the ipad and the asus transformer infinity. Worth watching.

Thanks for that. I just watched their comparison with the transformer infinity. Its mad how the screen got the 2 lines in the middle of the review! I had read about that happening other people too. I think I'l bite the bullet and get the Galaxy Note. Have it put away in Argos until tonight. What made the difference for me was how the galaxy looks more comfortable to hold and also more durable the way the silver edge kind of comes up over the screen. I'm really only looking for something to browse and watch movies. I also think it will integrate well with my phone. Oh well fingers crossed I made the right decision!!

Hi DarkBlonde, Just wondering if you got the Note 10.1 after and if you are happy with it?

Hi ya I have it a few weeks now and no complaints. It doesn't get great reviews online because it keeps getting compared with the new ipad. But I'm happy with it, it has expandable memory so that's a plus for me. I think the screen is fine some people say it's not sharp enough but that's comparing to the new ipad.

I have watched lots of movies on it and the sound is good speakers are in a good location.

I find the s pen very useful. I'm able to use it to take notes while having the browser open in split screen. Can also take notes and sync with ever note to open on the s3.

The stock browser is good too. Touch wiz is ok smooth enough same experience I have with the s3.It's getting jelly bean soon so I can't wait to see if it makes it smoother and faster. If no major difference I may root to ditch touch wiz.

It looks just like my phones big brother :-)

I'm on the verge of ditching my iPad and buying this, but one question I can't seem to get answered is - can you confirm that it is possible to highlight text PDF documents (like you would with a paper document and a yellow highlighter)? As obscure as this sounds, this is something I use extensively with Neu.annotate on the iPad. Also, can you scribble notes on PDF documents (again, as you would with a paper document).

How do you find the handwriting recognition? This is something I would use quite a bit. Trying to get all my notes off paper and onto, erm, Dropbox is a goal.

Sounds like you would be using it a lot like I current do. I use it a lot for highlighting and annotating pdfs for work. I really like it for that and it's somehow easier than reading them on screen. I use RepliGo Reader for this. There are other possibilities as well.

The handwriting recognition works quite well. It can decipher my writing which is not the best. I have to admit that I prefer to leave the notes as handwriting as I have not quite mastered the whole correct insertion of spaces, sentence lines and breaks using the handwriting recognition. It has nearly completely eliminated the pages of notes i would have on my desk and has allowed me to organize them so that I don't spend time trying to find something from weeks/months ago. Hope that helps!

Are there different versions of the Note 10.1?

Was on Harvey Norman website and it seems to suggest that it has 1GB of RAM, whereas even more confusingly on Expansys where it seems to say they all have 1.4GHz quadcore processors and 2GB RAM, I can get the 16GB "EU version" with 3G for €60 less than a "UK version" which is wifi only.

Was hoping to use it to pair with my car and use it as the phone in my car. Do you reckon this will work?

I'm pretty sure there isn't. Or at least, I haven't seen different models mentioned in any reviews I have read.

It should work. It's just a big (very big) phone, so incoming calls an bluetooth should work as you would expect.

I'm hoping to pick one up this weekend as an early Christmas present. I've had a play with a friend's one the other day and I'm smitten.

I was thinking of buying the Galaxy Note 10.1. It says on most websites that it does support Adobe Flash and but some people say that it wouldn't work for them. I saw one in Currys today and it said it does not support Flash but the man working there says it does. Could someone please confirm if Flash will work on this?

4.1 hopefully 4.2 will be along in the near future. It seems much smoother anyway. Haven't had a chance to get a proper look yet.

Iv'e had onefrom they have came out and have no problems with it, it plays any downloads iv'e thrown at it, its also very hand that there are loads of torrents out there for apps, the only thing i dont like is that the speakers don't throw out enough sound, although this could be me, and earphones soon solve that issue. apart from that i'm glad i bought that and not went down tha apple road.

been looking for samsung galaxy note 2 10.1" anybody know is there a note 3 being release soon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,212 ✭✭✭✭Tom Dunne

Upgrading to 4.12 as we speak.

How long should it take? I'm at about 40% and it's been almost an hour.

Connected via that infernal Kies via the USB cable.

I think you are mixing up the note 10.1 and the note 2, which is the 5" version.

There is no Note 2 10.1.
