    Hi,
I found an old landrover with no reg plates fitted, I have found an old Irish reg plate in the back with other reg plates(most too young). I think it was some kind of back yard garage were i found it, no ones knows anything about it and the old garage owner is dead.

I have got the chassis number of it.

How do i find out what its reg should be ?

and how do i get a replacement tax book ?

Cartell.ie, Motorcheck.ie and Mywheels.ie shows nothing, ie: Vehicle not found

Contact the motor taxation office in Shannon , they're very helpful.

Your local motor tax office may be able to help, that's if you can get an obliging official.

I think the Shannon based Dept of the Environment (wrong name, who keeps track) motor vehicle computer system started in 1976 so if vehicle was on the road then, they should have a record of it.

Not sure if a private citizen can access it direct - local Gardaí may be able to help. The number plates may be wrong of course, so you might ask them to search by chassis number if they dont match. Don't dismiss newer number plates in the hoard - it may have been a second-hand import so pre 1987 it would have received the next number in the sequence. E.g. It could be a 1971 vehicle with a reg no issued in 1982.

There is a danger that it could have been on the road on garage plates only. Are any of the plates white background with red letters in the format "013 ZC" (going on memory here so apologies if inaccurate).

Motor Tax office where it was originally registered will probably still have the old paper files but it may be in off site storage. Mid month might be a good time to find a friendly member of staff.
