Hi, to anyone that has a 08, 09 or 10 S40 (or knows about them).... i've been told buy a friend that his kids have no leg room in the back seats. I really like the S40, but dont want my kid to be cramped back there. My friend is a bit bigger than i am and has a laid back seat when driving, and maybe its just his drivers seat position. (he lives in belfast, I'm in cork, so i cant check it out)
    Whats yer opinion?

That's pretty much true if I was driving. They're not a big car.

I was in the back of a 2008 recently and they are cramped enough even with the seat let forward a fair bit although I am 6 foot 2 so head room was an issue depends on what height your children are age etc. but if you tall yourself you will have the driver seat back which will sacrifice the rear leg room more really depends on the age height of your children I suppose.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Contrary to what most people believe, the Volvo S40 is a small car. It is based on Ford Focus, a small family hatch

If you are average height and your children are teenagers, it will be cramped in the back

Maybe you should focus on a car a size bigger (pun intended :p)

Skoda octavia would be a good inbetween bigger than an s40 but smaller than a passat and also cheaper to buy.

The s40 interior is a zillion times nicer than an Octavia though.

I have one(2010).We have two booster seats in the back and the kids are grand in it(6+8+12). If the driver or front passenger was over 6 ft you might have problems. We drove to the north a lot from cork and its a great car on juice(Diesel 1.6) and comfortable!!!

It is alot nicer than the older 2005 model octavia alright. The 2009 model octavia interior was a big improvement but really you have to buy the elegance that has walnut sat nav all that stuff. Tbh personally I would only buy an elegance octavia as the lower spec are seriously boring inside. Where as even the basic s40 seems to have a good interior alright.

Why not look at the S80? They have a similar appearance to the S40 but have more room while not being overly large. They are reasonably priced second hand.
