They're a hard one to classify as there's so many variants - I've often asked this myself off owners, some say "hard on diesel" others say a snip, so who knows. My friend drives a 08 with i think a 2.8 and says its an animal on fuel.. Be interesting to hear what lads on here reckon as I kinda fancy getting one myself. I've an older 2.8 (Movano)and it's crap on fuel, btw.
