Sickened with SKY

Recently the signal to our sky box along with the houses around me had not been working.

Long story short, we have been with SKY for 20yrs+, rang them and asked can we get an upgrade. It costs 100 + 30 installation. Pleaded our case that we surely deserve the upgrade to Sky+ for free due to customer loyalty.

They give this offer to new customers. eventually I give in and accept the charge but do get 20% off for 6month(i think, might be 3months)

found out a person I know rang up really pi$$ed and wanted to cancel. they are now getting the box for free and a cheaper monthly cost.

Some joke the way SKY operate that people who have been loyal get screwed. looking into getting UPC due to this

Well first thing is you should ring Sky and state you have been offered a good deal by UPC and want to leave. they'll probably bend over backwards then.
If not then have a look at UPC's web site and see what packages tickle your fancy.
The things most people don't like about UPC TV that switch over from Sky usually centre on the box and its EPG/user interface. The remote is also cited as an issue.
The recent acquisition by UPC of SKy's HD channels has bridged the content gap. Many still complain about the lack of the F1 HD channel although Setanta HD is covering the races and the preamble to them. Also, there's no Sky Atlantic though there are "other " ways of viewing Game Of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire etc... .
The issues surrounding the box and its EPG will be sorted by UPC's new box which will be coming in Q1 2013. It's already live in Holland and you can find out about it elsewhere on this board.
Needless to say the Broadband is great and the phone service is very good as well... IMO.

Before you jump ship think carefully. By accepting the visit or the 3 or 6 months at half price you may have entered into another 12 month contract with Sky.

Also if you go to UPC you will be in another 12 month contract, which you also might regret.

Then there are the free TV options.

Deals are available for all providers. The amount you get depends on if you are out of contract, what packages you are on and how much you are paying per month, and if they actually believe you will leave or not. Even individual sales agents will offer different deals.

We should ask people to record their phone conversations to find out what stories give the biggest discount.

Just call back in you will probably get a different agent.
With both sky and upc loyalty offers are at the discretion of the agent you are speaking to. If you catch someone in a bad mood, new to the job or are just a jobs worth you wont get as good a deal. Your manner on the call is also a big factor in the deals you receive. Having worked for both companies I can say that if a customer was a dick or called up saying the were entitled to loyalty deals they would get less of an offer that someone who just asked if there was anything I could do for them or were generally pleasant over the phone with me.

Seeing as you did get something off them I would say you got the bad mood agent option. Just call them back up saying you are still not happy and (should) still be in a cooling off period from the offer.

OP do you want to talk about Sky or UPC? I'll be watching this thread and if the talk is mainly about Sky it will be moved to Satellite.
