Ho all have a 04 focus 1.4 and when starting to drive or accelerating the engine just doesn't have any power and stutters and sounds like its running only on 3 cylinder, drove home around 15 miles but not over 30 mph, checked the plugs and they all have sparks and the coil pack was replaced last year ! Any ideas what it could be? Coil pack again or maybe a blocked fuel filter? Please help, cheers.

No power in a 1.4 Focus? That's a standard feature in them, one of the most underpowered cars known to man:)!

Jokes aside, if it's stuttering like that it could well be the coils, but it would be unusual for it to happen in such a short space of time.

Has the engine light come on? It could be the Air Flow Meter (MAF) as well OP.

Sounds like a coil pack issue from how you're describing it. Did they replace the HT leads when you got the last coil pack changed?

Hi cheers for getting back the engine light came on just shortly but vanished straight away, I was thinking the same with the coil pack not even a year old.how to check the air flow meter will I just disconnect it?

    Hi
I have a 06 focus and same issue happened with mine. Brought to the garage and that advised that water got in somewhere. I think it was the coils. Warning light did come on. Got it fixed but problem occurred about a month later. Was heading away and did not get a chance to bring car back. However, since then I have had no issues.

Was very worrying when it did happen first. But it's fixed.

The post above reminds me of one other possible issue - the frost plugs can go in them as well (water can get into the spark plugs), the good news is that they're really cheap to fix (the part apparently is only €2 from Ford):).
