Think he means after you shoot you one how long should you wait until you go back there again for a hunt.. If that's so i'd usually wait a week or two.

I suppose a week or so would be ok to wait.

But I have taken some from a field one day and the next day the farmer was back on to me to come straight out as there were back again. (Happys Days) and he wanted rid of them.

not telling people what to do but we have a lot to learn here in ireland about deer management
after been in europe twice now and seeing how they do it
with cull numbers etc ya want to see the heads on the animals over there
nothing small is shot unless its not a good head ie one antler... bad antlers etc
they only shoot a few each and there mostly trophies we only dream of here

but saying this having hunted deer in ireland a few years now
its next to impossible to run this system here as we have no club structure for hunting deer like we do for phesant etc
there could be 4 of 5 people shooting the same farm and not no each other... so its first come first served
imagine stopping for five years and let numbers and trophies progress you would go out and see a lot of deer everday and have a pick at whatever one ya fancied
and only shoot 1 or 2 males each and a certain amount of females

even anyone with a coillte lease wouldnt be able to do it as they wouldnt be guaranteed the same lease every year if they were outbid

theres a lot of people blaming poaching for the deer decline in ireland
but i also think its lot to do with the amount of licenses been issued to people and not been giving a cull number
so ya could wipe out a whole herd in one farm in a year and be doing nothing wrong

i remember when i first started stalking there was maybe 4 or 5 lads stalking in the area id say theres 20 if not more now about not including the poacher

anyway best of luck getting another deer... i to have also gone out 2 weeks in a row to one spot to get a deer when i first started hunting
but since have got a lot more land so your not haunting the same spot all the time
saying that its took years to get

ya will help a lot but id try practice judging distances with it as its less gear to be carrying handy for zeroing the rifle all the same
    and less to lose

anyway best of luck with the season

So far I have only taken them for the pot. If I saw a big stag next to a little pricket then it is the pricket I would take as he would be so much nicer when he comes out of the oven. Saying that if a big stag wondered across my sights and nothing else in sight, well that is a different story.

It would be interesting to know how many deer hunting licences were issued this season compared to ten or fifteen years ago! There is farms where I hunt might take one or two in the season from that area but you hear then from the farmer joe blogs came last evening and shot 3 in the same field :( I think unless we get a cull or tag system going we are pissing in the wind!! Like u say daithi nobody is doing anything wrong it just the way it is here!!
