Sure your tip off will be useful to some of the members here.

But what a way to go about selling off their equipment... Minimal descriptiond and poor photos, hardly the best way to drum up interest or get the best price. I see they are selling off snowplough attachments for the front of lorries - what bets on snow in Donegal this winter;)

Btw, how does a local authority sell a vehicle without a logbook since they are the licencing authority???

Whats this with the special 999 registrations - as reserved registrations post 1987 originally cost €200, now €1,000 surely our gallant county council is not wasting taxpayers money on vanity plates:)

Post 1987 and Pre 1993 were allocated in sequence from 1 upards hence the above registrations. You could reserve one alright if you knew someone that knew someone, but there was no unused series as such.

Its appears they are either selling as scrap when no log book is present, in which case buyer must have a waste collection permit or alternatively selling as a vehicle where the logbook is available.
Seems all very much above board to me.

Cavan Co Co held a similar auction about 10 years ago. Some snow ploughs, about 4 demountable gritter bodies for fitting into tipper bodies, some old fashioned rollers (very keanly sought after, they had MF135 engines , v. low hours) A few little ford tractors (4600's) and about 6 old tipper lorries. I bought a D series Ford Cargo lorry,£280 I think. Non runner, diff removed to fit into another, some of the cab stripped for the same reason. I chopped the chassis at the cab and welded in crossmembers and a drawbar made from 18x18 inch RSJ. Had a 16 tonne tipper trailer for about £600. I got a tax book with it at the time. The fire engines made very good money , if I recall. A number of collectors verses a number of buisness men, who needed a fire enginen for their commercial premises, for insurance reasons. Iver in Cavan

I think it's really cool they took the time / effort to reg them as 999. I guess there was someone in particular responsible for that in fleet management for a few years. Doubt we'll see it again.
