    Listen to your solicitor before you listen to strangers on the internet. Yes it has to go to court, it isnt the victim that is prosecuting you, its the guards or the DPP.

    And read the charter.

    I agree with the above. However if you can make your peace with the person you assaulted beforehand, even if that requires compensation, you are likely to fare better in court..

    However leave any such negotiations to your solicitor, Don't call around to t he other party yourself until and unless your solicitor clears that,

    If the solicitor is stupid enough to clear that (OP calls around to the victim's house) then you should fire him and get a different solicitor.
