Is it possible for An Post to track a package that was sent by standard mail to the UK?

I recently bought an item from an eBay store but I needed to return it because it was the wrong size. That was last week and they still haven't received it.

I was charged €12 to sent a 1kg package to the UK (registered mail was around €25) but am wondering do I have any come back if it has gone missing?

Did you contact An post about it?

I tried calling them but theirs lines always seemed to be really busy so I emailed customer.services@anpost.ie this morning and attached a scanned image of my postal recipient.

I could drop into the post office where I posted it but I would be able to do that until Friday.

It must have been over 1kg as 1.01-1.5kg is 10.75 - Under 1kg is 7.50

If this is right, then it was sent as a packet and cannot be traced.

However, its not an overnight service and it depends on following

    What day it was posted

What time it was posted (some rural collections are at 2.30pm)

Address it was going to (rural Uk can take an extra day)

Was correct post code on parcel (wrong or missing postcode can delay by up to 2 days)

Neatness of address (if it can't be read by auto machine, it can delay delivery at every scanning point)

If it was posted on Thursday at 5pm and the address was hand written, it could be tomorrow before it arrives.

The package weighted 1.003kg exactly and it was posted on Thursday at 4.55pm with a hand written address.

It was posted from Dublin to Gloucester with the post code GL4 3HX clearly stated in block capitals.

Hopefully it is only delayed and not lost.

You can't track anything sent via standard post, only registered post can be tracked.

If it has gone missing, you are going to be out of pocket unless the seller gives you the benefit of the doubt and gives you a full or partial refund, which is doubtful.

Well not only did they receive they my returned package, DHL just called and gave me the correct sized item so I'm absolutely delighted (and relieved) at the outcome :)
