Royal Mail tracked package missing???

I bought something expensive from a reputable seller online in the UK.

They posted it last Friday using Royal Mail's swiftpost and on Sunday, 3 days ago, the tracking info on the Royal Mail website said "passed to the overseas postal service in Eire".

Nothing is showing up on An Post's tracking info. I've phoned An Post yesterday and today and they are insisting that it hasn't arrived in Irelabd because if it did, it would have been scanned in and would show up.

I also rang Royal Mail and they are insisting that it left the UK on Sunday!!!

Has anyone any recent experience of tracked items from the UK being delayed? It's like the item has disappeared mid-air!!!

    Thanks

Yes, you need to call Royal Mail in the UK, and get the new tracking number. As far as I can remember, the number changes when an post gets the package so call royal mail, get the number and then call an post with it.

I've phoned them and they said the number doesn't change.
I've also phoned customs and it's not there.
Having heart failure here that it's gone missing! It was very valuable! Oh God...

It will have the same tracking number here. I have had times where it has take 4 to 5 days to get form Royal Mail to An Post. I wouldn't worry too much.

;)Have patience, it will probably arrrive Thurs/Friday.
An Post are hopless with providing numbers anyway. If you paid by credit card and it is lost you have a month to claim for non delivery.

Whats very common is that people in the Britain don't really know the difference between Northern and Southern Ireland and so send packets by "Recorded Delivery". This is a UK only service so the item arrives here enters the normal mail stream and is not scanned and is delivered without requiring a signature.

The two Royal Mail services that can be tracked here are "Signed for" which is registered and "Airsure" which is scanned but delivered without a signature being obtained.

Thanks. It's been sent as "international signed for". I rang An Post AGAIN and they said the whole dispatch which contains thousands of items seems to still be in Heathrow!!! Phoned Royal Mail again & was told it flew to Ireland this morning. The amount of conflicting information I have received from Royal Mail is shocking!!!! Been checking AnPost tracking online all afternoon but nothing showing yet. Am still nervous it's missing but am a bit reassured from the most recent Royal Mail call. Royal Mail in my opinion appear to be so incredibly disorganised!!

Just said I'd update this thread.

After a week of calling Royal Mail, it appears that the parcel was scanned on three different days for loading onto a plane to fly into Dublin but it never made it on any of the three dates!

Royal Mail couldn't understand why it didn't get loaded on the first date and why it was subsequently scanned on two further dates in London and not loaded onto the plane.

So this morning I decided (for the millionth time!) to enter the tracking code into the An Post website and the tracking just appeared!!! So YEY, it's on the way!!!

It appears it was posted by Royal Mail Airsure. This service is their 'Swiftpost' but there is nothing swift about it I can tell you!! It's a joke! But at least the package will arrive today.

Bit of advice...if getting anything sent to Ireland from the UK, ask the sender to send it 'International Signed-For' as opposed to Airsure. Reading online, Airsure gets horrendous reviews and I can vouch for this.

Royal Mail are absolutely dreadful no matter what service you use! Funnily enough they are worse with expensive items. I remember the nightmare of them losing an item I returned, but got a lovely payment to the value of the lost item.

Heathrow.... isn't that another swear word to some... along with Royal Mail :p

We're very lucky with an Post I think it is an extremely reliable service.
