I'm putting together my Grandfather's biography.

he was born in Moville, grew up in England, went to sea on Tankers and was on the British Chemist, which blew up in Grangemouth harbour in 1929. got award for bravery in fighting the fire.....

developed TB so when the war started he sent his brother to do the RNR medical......

was 1st officer of one of the takners that fuelled operation pedestal.....

captain of a corvette convoy escort for a while......

invalided out of Navy and returned to Moville where he kept a suspiciously large pension (£200 compared to £245 as his last years salary....) Family legend supported by locals suggest that he was still working for British inteligence to muddy the waters as far as the info flow from German sympathisers to the Uboats waiting to pounce on convoys out of Derry.

there is a huge amout of paperwork, and in the first instance my plan is to take this and convert it into a single text biography that my kids can read to get a handle on their great grandfather rather than wade through all the loose pages that I have.

but if it's all nicely typed up anyway.........

    who should I go for?

    historical factual?
    historical fiction?
    Tourism for the Moville angle?

    all of the above?

or is self publishing like 50 shades realistic?

    any suggestions gratefully accepted!

My great-grandfather's biography is coming out next month and was picked up by Mercier press if that's any use to you as a lead.

    Who was your great-great grandfather?

    I wonder why.

If he died in 1931 that might explain him not contesting the 1932 general election.

Being dead isn't the handicap for elected office you'd think.....
Jennifer Ann "Jenny" Oropeza (September 27, 1957 – October 20, 2010) was the California State Senator for the 28th district which includes the cities of Carson, El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Lomita, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, and Torrance; the Los Angeles communities of Cheviot Hills, Bel Air, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, Lennox, Mar Vista, Marina del Rey, Palms, Playa del Rey, Rancho Park, San Pedro, West Los Angeles, Westchester, Wilmington and Venice; and part of the city of Long Beach.

Oropeza was elected to her first term in the California State Senate in November 2006 and garnered 62 percent of the vote. Oropeza died less than two weeks before the November 2, 2010 election, in which she had been expected to easily win reelection. Her name remained on the ballot in the 28th Senate District. Oropeza posthumously won reelection on November 2, 2010.

Historical factual seems to be what you're leaning towards, if it's a biography. Mercier would be good to talk to, as would New Island or O'Brien or Hachette Ireland.
