Have you ever noticed people who are say sitting in rown 30, deciding to leave their overhead cabin luggage above in an overhead locker near the front, like row 5 or 6, just so that they won't have to carry it up and down the aisle. The result is that people in that area have nowhere to put their stuff and have to go ten rows back and so have to wait until the plane is empty to get off. Really pisses me off. Cabin crew don't seem to care!

If a person sitting in row 30 shoves his bag in the locker above row 5, how do you expect the cabin staff standing in the aisle to do anything about it? They only ask to see your boarding card when you get on to make sure that you're on the right flight, not to police where you put your bag.

I've never had to put my bag in a row behind me so I don't really think that problem is endemic, the big problem is the selfish pr1ck (and it's always a man) who stands forever fixing his bag in the locker while the people standing behind him are fuming because he won't get the fcuk out of the way.

well this has happened to me several times and I've noticed where the people who were picking the bags were coming from on the plane. the cabin crew are in the plane - not just at the front, during boarding. it's not that hard to see what people are up to.

    Absolutely.

Although I think the problem is half linked to folks not trusting that they will get a place further down the back, which is in itself linked to folks using the overhead lockers as a repository for cubic metres of light but bulky bumpf that they picked up on holiday and the airport

The aer lingus new rule on everything having to fit into your carry on bag should eliminate a lot of the unnecessary clutter. They also now have a request to store everything EXCEPT large bags at your feet so another step of progress.

And just to go back to the first point, I have seen aer lingus crew close the few lockers over the first few rows to stop the temptation of muppets from the back putting their stuff in those lockers so at least theres efforts being made to minimise the problem.

You can't make that assumption. A lot of the time a person sitting at the rear gets down to their seat and can't find a place for their bag so the cabin steward takes it off them and stows it in any free slot which in some cases can be further back towards the front.

I have never seen someone stow a bag over a forward row and then saunter down to the back of the plane. Neither have you by the sound of it because you only talk about people 'picking' their bag out at the end of the flight.

Anyway the new policy of rigidly enforcing the carry-on bag count should go a long way to alleviate the problem of too much baggage onboard.

If the bag was the proper size, it would fit under the seat, wouldn't it?

If it was the maximum size for an Airbus I doubt it, it would certainly stick out and leave you no floor space for your feet. You'd have your feet on the case and your knees stuck under your chin!

Slightly off topic but does someone have a linky to these new Aer Lingus cabin bag regulations?

it wasn't the air crew moving bags for them as there was space inbetween the seat rows and where these people came from. it was muppetry on their part, plain and simple.
