Wondering if it would be possible to transfer from science to business and french? Not sure if I've chosen the right course...was always stuck between these two and am just curious if I'd still have the option. And also, if I was to drop out, what would the deadline be for dropping out and still having the Govt. paying for the tuition fees? I would lose the reg fees, right?

Provided you have the points for the course you want to transfer into. I assume you're just going into first year right? It'll probably help if you can find someone to do a straight swap between courses, but you might have to wait until a place arises otherwise. Have a chat with your tutor, head of faculty, or senior lecturer as soon as you can.
I think there was an October deadline for transfer requests, a friend of mine transferred from BESS to Science and she seemed to have a few problems doing so since theyre both quite big courses with high demand for places, but she got Science in the end around Halloween in think.
If you're serious about transferring, start reading some of the text books of the course you want to transfer into, since obviously you'll have missed some stuff by the time the actual transfer goes though. But don't forget to keep up with the work of the course you're currently doing/about to start, since they'll take into account your work ethic and willingness to learn and stuff.
Sorry, but I don't really know anything about dropping out.

Hope it wasn't too long of a post. Maybe someone who has firsthand experience of transferring/dropping out could give you some pointers too?

I think the deadline for fees is in January. One of my friends dropped out, you have to go through some hoops though in order to dodge tuition fees if you decide to apply to a new course next year. You'll lose your registration fees though so it's best to try a transfer if the course doesn't work out

You have to withdraw from college (And notify the college of your withdrawal) by October 1st according to the college calendar.
Withdrawing between October 1st and January 31st will mean you'll be refunded half your Student Contribution, however if you apply for any other course next year, you'll be liable to pay fees for the first half of 1st year.

Talk to the member of staff who's your college tutor about this, or drop into or phone the SU Welfare Officer: http://welfare.tcdsu.org/
