Will there be a swords sportive this year? If so, will it be open to non-members and how fast does the slow group go? Or should that be how slow do the slow group go?:)

It's on the 30th of September. The details are on www.swordscc.com . I'd say you will have no shortage of company if you want to go around at an easy pace. No problem (as far as I know) with non-members taking part.

Didnt get to do it last year and looking at the list of climbs my legs hurt already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,179 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Plan on doing it this year myself. Missed it last year. I believe its a tough route, hwoever I would have covered most of the route on spins on the bike at the weekends. OP, as in every sportive there will be all different abilities taking part. Hopefully the weather will be good on the day. Hope to see you at registration:)

club sportive - they dont have slow groups, if your slow you just ending up riding round on your own and everyone is packed up when you get to the finish ;)

Yep, did that last year. Actually, I ended up heading to Drogheda for tea and scones with the touring group halfway through...

Would like to attempt this but I don't think my newly expanding rotund mid section would allow my legs to explode my knees and lungs.

That'd be one tough day in the saddle.

Last year we all stayed together till at least the first corner. So you'll be fine till there anyway.

By the first corner you mean the corner outta the car park onto the road. Yeah!

I think Fergal rode off the front and then went the wrong way. Never saw him again all day.

He's still out there. He'd be dead if it wasn't for the miraculous medal.

What do you mean by "out there"?

Apparently it is for members and "invited guests" only. Hark at us!

oh! I know yee are probably messing with each other there, but is it only for Swords CC members? (just that I don't see it on Irish Cycling events page, so now I'm thinking it isn't an open event?)

So now rob fowl will be left alone after the first hill:-)
Fingal could do with some more sportives, ideally not quite as though as this one though.
    Enjoy it lads!

    No.

I have no licence. I need to apply for that for next year. Can I not get a one day licence for this?

Especially since all my Sundays in Sept are out to all but short spins.
If interest is there I may try and organise a 100km less hilly but still challenging tour of Fingal at some stage in October..but thats for a different thread.

I will keep my eyes peeled.
There are so many great routes in North Dublin\South Meath it always surprises me how few people you see on the bike compared to Howth or Wicklow. Unless we are all travelling the same route going at exactly the same speed.

Hardly a sportive if it's only for club members, more like a mass start club spin

Am very dissappointed to hear this is for Swords members only.If Swords CC let CI members in if would make them a few more quid, plus ensure only experienced racers/other club members would enter, thus keeping it still a safe event,as so far as every rider would be a CI member.

See the thread on the club league and extrapolate !!
