    HI,
I have a PC in work but need a second terminal to work off the same PC. In other words I would like to remotely work a screen, keyboard and mouse off my PC. Ideally I would like to avoid wiring but I can hard wire if needed.
Anyway can anyone suggest some kit or methods to do this.
    Many thanks

Im not sure I fully understand what you want to do. Is it a KVM you're looking for?

You mean connect to another PC over a network to control it?

You can use Microsoft Remote Desktop, or VNC.
If you want to connect from over the internet, there's LogMeIn.

    All free.

I have a single PC in a room with the usual mouse, screen and keyboard. I cannot acces that computer alot of the time as someone is in my way ( I also cannot move it). So I was hopeing to put another screen and mouse and keyboard in another part of the room that remotely connects to the PC. I hope this explains all.
    What is KVM

A KVM switch = Keyboard, video & Mouse. Wiki

Although that typically allows you to share the one keyboard, video(screen) and mouse among multiple computers.

Whereas you want a computer with 2 screens, 2 keyboards and 2 mice...

You could get a wireless keyboard & mouse, so you don't have to be right beside the PC.

Then, depending on your graphics card, you might be able to run two screens off it, both mirroring the same screen.
So you can turn either of the screens on.

Not sure why you can't just move the PC or get a laptop !
It all seems like a complicated solution to a straightforward physical problem.

If you have room for the second PC which you feel you can access all of the time, why not switch them?

All said the suggestion I think is best suited for you is to network both PC's by means of a router and then remotely connect to the other PC. As Creepingdeath suggests. Are you looking to covertly watch what is on this PC? :-)

As mentioned above, vnc is very easy to use and set up.

You install vnc on the other computer and your own. When you install on the other computer, you only need to install the server on that one, and on your machine the viewer.

Then on the viewer you enter the ip address of the computer you want to access. You can set up a password if you like to limit access.

So what you want is to be able access one PC from two terminals? this can be done easily with KVM switches or Extenders as long as you get the correct one.

Most basic KVM Switches give you control of two or more PCs from a single console-as in a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The more expensive ones give 2-4 or more user inputs, and up to 64 server/Pc's-probably more using KVM IP switches (been a while since I installed a large one) and often have 2 or more consoles..

    KVM would suit you if you intended more than one PC's eventually, and things you want to check before you get a KVM;

what connections your monitor uses, are the KB and mouse USB or PS2?

How far apart the current PC, monitor, keyboard, and mouse and the proposed location of the second monitor, keyboard, and mouse will be located?

Bear in mind the maximum cable length a USB cable can be extended to is 5 meters, DVI is about 9 meters..if the locations are far apart, you might require a KVM that works over Cat 5 cabling.

If you intend to only ever use the one PC and want to remotely access it, go with a KVM extender like this one would work fine. You just require a dedicated Cat5 cable between the current PC and new terminal location.

As has been said, if you have a second pc or laptop on the network you can remote desktop to it. Its under start>accessories>remote desktop connection.

If you dont have a second pc, you'll probably need a wireless keyboard and mouse, and a video extension cable.

No Covert watching. I work in a dental surgery and my computer is set up in an ideal location for me but sometimes my assistant needs to use that area for setting up and I would like to keep working on the computer when she is there even though the secondary location is not ideal.

Thanks to all for the ideas, I will look int them

Just one other idea to throw out there... you might mount your computer screen on a swinging arm mount, if you just want to move the screen a few feet in either direction.

    Monitor Swing Arms
