I'm pretty sure such a thing exists, but couldn't find it on sites like thetrainline.co.uk

I'm coming from Reading to Paddington and need to travel a few stops by tube to my final destination. I don't have an Oyster card (yet).

Is it possible/normal/cheaper to get a ticket from Reading to 'anywhere in zone 1' instead of Reading to Paddington or am I imagining things again ?

Is should pop up as an option on thetrainline but perhaps only if you're travelling off-peak? I know it did for me recently when checking out a trip to london.

    Maybe check www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk also

Just checked that and you can enter London Zone 1 (any) as a destination option, not sure how it effects price though

Thanks, I seem to have looked straight through it on the screen - you can indeed specify "Zone 1".

It adds £3 on to the base fare. A walk up fare for that at the tube station would be £4.30, and the Oyster fare (off hours) would be £2.

    Sorted, thanks.
