Putting and chipping Practice

Does anyone know of a place where I can practice my chipping and putting in South County Dublin. I use Leopardstown Driving range but the shortgame practice facility is Astroturf and not the greatest. I am not a member of any club at the moment (although I hope to be joining one of the well known North County Dublin link course in the coming months) and would like to improve my short game before this.

    Thanks for any ideas!

Behind the astroturf there is a small 'green' you can chip balls onto. Not always closely mown so not fantastic for putting but decent enough for chipping. You can practice all sorts of chip/pitch shots from all kinds of lies so why not use that?

That's not a bad idea. I have only used the short game area on a couple of occasions as I mostly just use the range so I hadn't noticed it. I give that a try, thanks for the tip.

Newcastle Driving range has a short game area as far as I know if you can stretch the legs as far as Dublin South West.

Its about a 5-10 minute drive from City West Hotel

Stepaside driving range have a putting green with a bunker beside the start of the par 3 course, I use it once a week before heading inside to the range.

There are signs up saying chipping of forbidden but they have a practice bunker

Another possibility OP is the Spawell P&P.
There is a chipping area and practice green there, it isn't the best facility but it's better than nothing I suppose.
I sometimes pop onto it after hitting a few balls at the range.

I'm not sure whether it was allowed or not, but I always used to use the chipping/putting facilities in Powerscourt. They're very good and have plenty of bunkers & greens to play with.

I know the sign is there but almost everyone i've ever seen using it hit some chips, I've even seen one of the professionals giving chipping lessons on it a couple of times!

on a related, but not exactly same issue for you. I see that JustTreats have a full day short game session in Rathsallagh up as their deal of the day, reduced from €200 to €98

Is Powercourt somewhere where you could use the facility without either paying or playing a round I wonder?

    You're kidding right ???

They would run you out of the place if they knew that you were not either a member or a green fee paying guest, as would most courses.

Not saying you can't get away with it, but I wouldn't draw attention to yourself by speaking to anyone about this when you're knocking around the club.

Look like you own the place, isn't that what they say!
But true enough...it was just a thought...

Absolutely. As I said above I did it many times, though as Kace said if they found out they probably wouldn't be happy, but I only ever went up late on summer evenings when there wouldn't be many people around and never had any problems. Most of the time there wouldn't have been more than 1 or 2 people on the entire practice ground.

And to be fair most people practicing just want to keep to themselves anyway and not be bothered by other people.
