Acer Rubrum Red Maple

    Anybody have experience of growing American Red Maple in Ireland? I'm thinking of putting in a couple of hundred as an amenity component here and there-apparantly it's quite adaptable to a wide range of soil types, but my concern is how it will deal with the constant Irish wind, given that many East Coast North American trees do poorly here unless in lowland and sheltered areas. Thanks

    beautiful trees .one problem that i came across, is our lovely furry grey squirrells love them for dinner.otherwise i have had no problems:)

    No grey squirrels over this end yet!!! but sadly saw a dead red on the road outside ashford castle in cong the other day.

    yes they are lovely trees but not noticed any here, have only seen them in the uk.

    I seen a grey squirrel a while back in my local forest. But I than found him dead on the side of the dead a few days later. Not seen any since

    in the US 20m or thereabouts, here I'd guess 15m
    re grey squirrels plents of Pine martens about and no greys so i'm not unduly worried about them...yet:eek:

    I would one of them around me. But they would be two big for the houses around me

    Where can you get them tree. I saw really hoping for a maple tree. I really want one like the ones in central park.

    Petty we don't have a park in Ireland like that

    Any decent garden centre, or even watch out for deals at the big supermarkets.
