Accountants working abroad

I'm currently working with one of the big 4, finished my training contract and waiting on my FAE results in November. I'll stay with the firm until the end of the year, after that I wouldn't mind heading abroad, preferably to the US or Canada. I'm just wondering has anyone here who has done something similar got any advice?
I know a few guys who got jobs through a Morgan McKinley seminar with US firms, they're contracted with the firms for 6 months or so and these firms look after their visas and travel. It sounds like a pretty sweet deal as I think the visas are even for 3 years. These lads would all have worked in audit, I've spent my time in tax so I'm wondering would I find it a bit more difficult to get work abroad.
Any advice/words of wisdom from people who've done something similar (or if you know of people who have) would be greatly appreciated. I'm really just at the early stages of contemplating what to do or where to go so any suggestions would be great.

These people generally travel across on either H1-B or L1 visas. These are tied to the sponsoring company. The visa is only valid for the full duration (usually three years for L1, can be up to 6 AFAIK for H1-B) if you remain employed by the US company for the duration. Otherwise they expire upon termination of your employment, and you must leave the US, or have found another sponsoring firm pretty fast (can only use H1-B for transferring to another firm).
With both visas you can try and apply for a Green Card (permanent residency) whilst in the US, but there is no guarantee of getting one, and the process can be quite slow (a few years in some cases)
