Quickest/most frequent bus to Rathmines?

I'l be starting a PLC in rathmines tomorrow, so I'm trying to stay ahead of stuff, so transport. I live in malahide, so I know the 142 goes straight from malahide to rathmines, but the bus stops it services are quite awkward for me, along with the times, and I took it last week to get in to for my registration, I'd prefer not to take it again.

So, it'll be the 42 from swords road into town, then... which is the most frequent bus from town to rathmines, and where do I get it from? I took the 140 from town for my interview, which was fairly handy, but I don't want to be stuck waiting for one bus while another one just goes past. Cheers.

I can't see a problem with the 142. That, the 32x or a DART / train to Tara Street and a number 15 will be the fastest service.

Otherwise, getting off at Connolly station and getting a 15 from the Luas stop would be the best idea at peak times.

Realise the 42 will take 20-40 minutes longer.

If you get a 42, you can change anywhere between Donnycarney Church and the stop before Connolly Station directly to either a 14 or 15 which will both take you to Rathmines.

Use the Dublin Bus RTPI app or on street signs.

Well I start at 9am. So I'd leaving my house about half 7, about peak times.

You say in the other thread that the 142 goes from the bottom of your road, if I had the option i'd stay on the one bus all the way to my destination.

As I posted above, the 14 and 15 combined will offer you a good choice - the 14 is every 10 minutes at peak and the 15 every 10 minutes all day, plus you can change to them without walking anywhere.

The only stop where you get a better choice really is the first stop on Nassau Street where the 14, 15, 15a, 15b and 140 all stop.

What you could do is if your near Malahide Dart Station you could get the dart to Clongriffin and the 15 is just at the Square 2 minute walk and ya can get all the way to Rathmines, see pic when you come out of the station you'll see the steps onto your right once u go to the bottom the 15 stop is onto your left there

Be aware of course that any bus/rail combined trips will cost more than a bus only trip.

Be aware that getting a 14 or 15 across the Liffey may lead to a delay of up to ten minutes for a driver change on the Quays or on Hawkins St.

Driver changes kick in after 0900 - that won't be an issue if the OP had to be in Rathmines for 0900.

Unless they wanted to come back home at some stage ;)

Driver changes happen on Eden Quay northbound which is where the 42 departs from, so it's not really an issue there either.

True - but as I pointed out above it's more cost effective to stick with the bus, but if the OP wanted to use the DART I would suggest that getting off at Eden Quay and walking to Tara Street is probably shorter than travelling to Amiens Street and walking then to platforms 6 or 7.

This is likely to take a bit longer, best to use the train as far as possible.
