Could anybody tell me is it possible to work part-time while on a CE Scheme? The scheme is less than 20 hours a week.

Yes it is,however you will be obliged to notify the revenue of the income for tax purposes. If your employer is deducting tax at source(paye worker)they need to take your income from the scheme into account.

Just wondering how you got on with the working while on CE?
I was searching the web for the same thing...

I worked while on my CE Scheme, though I worked in the same company albeit in a different area. I am very lucky that I have been kept on after my scheme finished
I got 2 different payslips, and as my CE scheme was mainly nights I only worked days in the job. I had no problem at all doing both

Sorry I was slow coming back to this. I just thought I would update in case somebody was looking for an answer to this! I asked my CE Supervisor could I work part-time and there was no problem, as long as it didn't interfere with my CE work. There used to be a limit of 12 hours to your part-time work, but that's gone now. I was told there wasn't a limit now, but obviously if you earn over a certain amount from your part time work you can't be on a CE scheme. FAS seem to be quite happy about you engaging in work outside the scheme as it 'shows initiative'.
It's a funny one though, because if I had been working even part-time in the 12 months before I applied for the CE scheme I wouldn't have been eligible.

Hi there, can anyone tell me if there is any way that you can possibly participate in two schemes at the same time?

If your thinking of doing 2 x 19.5hrs per week on CE then the answer is no.

I hold a medical card and I'm starting a CE Scheme soon, from Wednesday through Friday. I may also get the opportunity to work part-time for about 3 months on the days I am free Monday's and Tuesdays. My medical card is due for renewal in May 2014. Am I likely to lose my medical card then, if I take on the part time work?

    you should be grand.
Can I retain my card if I return to work?
The retention of Medical Cards (without a means test) is approved for people as indicated below:-
    • People who participate on certain Government Employment and Education Schemes will retain their entitlement to a Medical Card for the duration of the scheme (Examples include Back to Work Allowance, Community Employment Schemes, Back to Education Allowance, etc.
    • People who have been unemployed or in receipt of One Parent Family Payment for a minimum of 12 months will retain their Medical Card for a period of 3 years if they commence employment
    • When a person who has been unemployed for a period of 12 months or more enters part-time employment, their medical card will be retained for a period of 3 years from the date their income increases to a level which exceeds the appropriate Medical Card Guideline
    • People who hold a medical card and are in receipt of a Disability Allowance or a Blind Pension from the Department of Social and Family Affairs and who take up employment are allowed to retain their Medical Card for a maximum of 3 years from the date of taking up employment. Dependent members of the family of those covered
by the 'retention' provisions will also be granted medical cards.

Back to Work allowance is not means-tested and you can work part-time without affecting your BTEA payment.
