Hi i work for a large international company, with an irish branch. I was on a 6 month contract where the notoce period was 1 week. now ive been out of contract for 6 months. What is my notice period?

Also i colleague who was in contract left, was told he had to give 2 weeks notice or he wouldnt be paid his backweek...is this legal?

    Many thanks.

They can't withhold his wages. As for notice - if he doesn't work the agreed notice that could potentially (with about the same chance of my scoring Penelope Cruz) sue. If his contracts says one week and they are insisting on two he should contact NERA.

Is there no way you can ask some one what the company notice period is for people in your situation? Would you have an issue working two weeks? Most new employers expect people to have a notice period they have to work.
