    Hi,

I'm looking to get the free channels using an old sky box but don't want to use the standard sky dish - house is painted cream so want to use a cream/white/light grey dish.

Is it a case that I can use any dish but make sure I use a Sky LNB with the Sky receiver - or do I have to use a Sky dish?

A standard "circular" dish is fine, as is a standard universal LNB. The main different between a regular dish & Sky's is aesthetics.

Also using a "Sky" LNB on a regular dish isn't recommended not only because the fitting is different (Sky LNB's generally use a spigot to slot into the arm whereas ordinary universal LNBs are clamped by a collar) but that Sky LNBs are designed to view the oval face of a Sky dish as opposed to a circular one.

Can I use any kind of paint e.g. car spray?

Anything is better than a sky dish (rust)

See if you can get a steel dish with a zinc phosphate coated finish

Make sure you do not paint the LNB. Also gloss (shiny) paints are not recommended as at certain times of the year they can concentrate the suns rays into the LNB and melt it!

Basically you want paint suitable for metal. Make sure the paint has not metal in it.
