Laptop charger problem.

Hey guys, about a week ago my computer said that I needed to replace the battery. It still worked fine when charger plugged in. Then yesterday my dog chewed the charger so I went to a computer repair shop to get a new charger. The first charger they gave me turned out to be faulty and they gave me a different one. The second charger will charge my computer but when I plug it in the computer goes a little crazy. The mousecursor is unresponsive and randomly opens files and zooms the screen in and out. Totally UN useable. But fine when charger not plugged in.
I rung the shop about this and they told me that there is no way that a charger would cause this and that it could be a problem with the mother board and to drop it in and they would sort it.
what I want to know is could a charger cause anything like this? Just a bit wary about this all as the computer is fine with no charger plugged in and was even working fine yesterday with old charger?
Also if it is a mother board problem and it had to be fixed will that wipe the full memory and all on the laptop? Been a while since I backed it up. Stressed as just started college and really need it.

All newer laptop chargers all have ID/capability codes built in, to tell the motherboard what it can and cant do with charger/power connected.
It sounds like charger is bad junk, that cant do what its codes say.
    try a different model.
