Canyon Bikes 2013

Yesterday i sold the trusty winter training bike with a view to buying a Canyon Roadlite. However my timing now has me worried as from what I can see Canyon have a tiny amount of 2012 bikes in stock and look totally out of anything that might remotely fit me (54cm or Size M in Roadlite frame)

My question is does anyone recall around what time last year Canyon released its 2012 range for general purchase? And was there a waiting list or huge waiting times for orders? i would expect this years release to be similar?

I cant beat the roadlite for value but I cant really afford to wait til christmas for delivery. For anyone interested I emailed Canyon and they have said this :

"In the case that a bike is sold out it means we have no more of them this season. All the information about the 2013 bikes, including the prices, specification and availability , will be published on the canyon.com website at the end of september"

There's a site up date with all the lovely new 2013 road bikes, including my soon to own ultimate slx, in 'mid-October'. I know the ultimate cf SLX wont ship til dec/jan but i believe that is because of the component (shimano 9000 etc) so maybe the roadlite will ship from the get go in mid October?

Thanks for that Patrick .... So are you saying that you have somehow pre-ordered the 2013 SLX? Or do you simply just plan on purchasing the SLX as soon as it becomes available?

I would've bought a canyon winter trainer this time last year, but they weren't to be had. Whether it was my size or whatever, I was looking at a post christmas delivery date, so I had to shop elsewhere.

Cheers FB thats what i was afraid of hearing. Strange really - I'm sure there are plenty of people out there eyeing up the roadlite as a winter training bike.

Out of interest what did you end up buying as an alternative?

No, I just plan to. Been waiting since it was soft launched just before the tour for it :)

When I emailed them about the 2013 stock in August I was told the new bikes would be on the site in late September.

Yeah i have had the same reply via email however however their twitter account is answering mid october for website update but they wont be pushed on an answer on delivery times for 2013 bikes.

Looks like I'm in for a wait or looking at alternatives.....

The canyon site is updated with the 2013 range now, so plenty of virtual "tyre kickin" to done, 11 versions of the CF SLX. The roadlite 6.0 is available ex-stock.

New TT bike is sweet but only available with shimano electronic shifting

    I didn't see frameset only.

Prices have shot up too. Previously you could get a CF SLX with DA for €3k, Now with Ultegra for €3k. Elect Ultegra for €3400. Still sweet machines and I want one :_(

Edit: I see they no longer sell just framesets, by the looks of things.

New Speedmax CF looks sweet alright.
Thought they would keep the old CF speedmax in the lineup as it falls in between pricewise of the speedmax AL and the new CF. Was better specced as well and I'd take better wheels and manual shifting at over a grand cheaper than the new fancy frame and electronic shifting. Disappointed they're not doing framesets any more so no more sponsoring either. Speedmax AL frameset was available at €699 was giving it serious consideration as a budget TT option.

Click the "Availability" link on the details page and you'll see when they're in stock. Some of the MTBs are available in 3 weeks.

Feck that if it's true. Rules them out for any further purchases.

    As do the prices!

I think the framesets will be on offer in a couple of months. Looking at their FB page, they're short on stock for many bikes and probably want to get them shifting before any cheaper option like buying a frameset is availible.

The crucial fact is whether they'll have that club discount!? Roadlite is still e999 and is a no brainer buy for anyone with a grand to spend.

Bad news on this front; I emailed Canyon & asked them if they would be selling framesets & running their sponsoring program again. This was the reply that I got.

"thanks for your e-mail from the 14th october 2012 regarding the framesets of the 2013 models.
Regrettably for the first time there won’t be offered any frame sets of the 2013 models and so there is no offer of sponsoring at the moment. There will be an information on our homepage if they are there for being ordered.
If you have further questions of difficulties, please contact us again.
    Best regards,"

Considering the purchase of a Canyon Ultimate CF7 or CF8. However, I am not at all mechanically minded - changing a wheel is the best I can do - has anyone had any experience in assembling a Canyon roadbike from delivery package etc:

Can it be assembled by a non mechanically minded individual or would it need to be taken to a bike mechanic?

The specification seems excellent for the price - any comments on bike or assembly would be greatly appreciated.

It takes longer to take off all the bubblewrap and tape than it does assembling the bike!

Many thanks Hungrycol and uberwolf - I presume therefore that it is relatively easy and that there is an assembly manual included etc. I presume by your responses that you have been through this?

Don't know how I haven't checked the canyon site in more than 11 days but only seen this now :D

    http://www.canyon.com/_en/service/news_event.html?nt=

No details on pricing link for sponsoring is broken but if I remember correctly sponsor prices were the same as year 3 crash replacement framesets.
Here's to hoping the Speedmax Al comes back on it.
