A question about the Godfather Movie

In the first Godfather movie, Michael leaves America to take refuge in Sicily. While there he meets a lovely young woman and marrys her.

My question is: over what time frame was he supposed to have met this girl, courted her and married her?

The reason I ask is because Michael still has his black eye in the scene of his first night with his new wife which he had when he was leaving America.

    Thanks

It wasn't just a black eye, the beating by McCluskey fractured Michael's jaw and the skull around his eye, leaving left him with permanent damage to his face.

Thematically, I think it marked the "point of no return" at which Michael decided his future would be in the Family, and the scars remained for the rest of his life as a reminder.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Yeah, that was described in some detail in the novel, also a local (incompetent) doctor tried to fix it, which probably didn't help in the long run.
