Buying a UK car in Ireland

I bought a 07 Grand Vitara about 5 weeks ago that had an asking price of €9700.The wife has now said she hates it and wants to change it so I've looked at a 08 VW Passat that a local dealer has.It has 96k miles on the clock and a FSH from the UK.I drove it and it seems sound (me being no expert).I've offered him €500 with my car and he's going to ring me back tmw but said he'd likely do a deal.

How do I know if it's a genuine car...not clocked or crashed. He will put it through the NCT but they'd hardly obtain the UK mileage themselves.

Is there a reliable source that I can go to to find out it's history?

Get the VIN or the original UK plate no if known. I would get the car HPI's in the UK first then run another check for Ireland if you can.

Mind you, I'm not expert in these matters but it seems common sense to try that way. The FSH should also show the UK reg no.

It's much easier to check out a UK cars history than it is here. Just google and you'll find plenty of websites offering a pretty comprehensive history, it'll cost you though.
