They were accepting applications until today, cousin said it was on publicjobs for about two weeks.

Amazing the way there is a moratorium on essential services like hiring nurses and special needs assistants yet when it comes to our politicians having ushers to hold doors open for them in Leinster House it is deemed as priority.

Anyway best of luck to those who applied.

You're right there. They seem to have got their priorities in the wrong order.

Anyone get called for the test in Tallaght? I presume the bus is nearer to the basketball stadium? Heard Luas stop is miles away. Pity they couldnt have it nearer town. Never been to Tallaght in my life.

No, a lot of the Ushers are women. So wouldn't be thinking that. I'm just reading the booklets on the Leinster House website and reading a book on 20th century Irish History. Wonder how many questions etc. Wasn't much detail on publicjobs website. I'm up at 10am on October 2.

Thought the detail was terrible, basically a layout of how the test would look like but no real information on the type of questions, in fact i couldn't make head nor tail of it. Also they never said how long the test would be and how many questions.......im on at 10am too, guess there will be thousands doing it......if there is tour guiding involved probably best to know your wolfe tones and robert emmets and charles s parnells!!!!! and padraig pearse. Good luck and hope you do well.

A glorified history test really. I think a good read through the website and some knowledge of parliamentary history will go a long way.

How did you find the questions? Thought the Eurovision one was a bit random.

I got the eurovision wrong and to be honest was a bit disappointed that they would ask such a question, got quite a few wrong, sorry now i answered them as you get a penalty for every wrong answer, but at the time thought i was correct, hadn't a clue re the meps, or where that castle was. Im sure there was quite a few people who did well, as larry would say
they didn't suit me!! I know somebody who did the later session and their questions did seem easier and they got asked about Jeward.........!!!!

And not being a Dubliner, I didn't know The Lord Mayor! And completely forgot to read up on the Supreme Court. So got most of them wrong. And even Katie Taylor got a mention. Big age range of people there.

I didn't know him either, had never even heard of him........did you hear that 12,000 people applied, how are they going to test all those people, be in the arena for weeks..........

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 346 ✭✭petersburg2002

Are you serious? That's insane. I suppose you need PhD to do an usher job in Leinster House now. Although I would bet a lot of them are more educated than some of the TDs in there. I think she said the results are out in two weeks. I did a First Aid course thinking it might help.

I got in the top 50, so hope I'll make the cut for interview. Dont have any security experience though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 389 ✭✭brookers

Thats fantastic placing, but I wouldn't worry too much about lack of experience in certain areas as I'm sure they will train you if you got the position. Also didn't they say that the application was also important in inviting people for interview even if you got number 1. You could be strong in other areas. also are they realistically going to get a medic, security and tour guide all rolled into one and also have a personality suitable for the job......You have as much chance as the next person.

Filling mine out today. Hate all these questions.:(

And the main 'level of education' box is just for seconday education. As if an usher could not possibly have anything more than a Leaving Cert in 2012. How patronising.

Well done fair play. Did you move up on the order of merit? When are they holding the interviews?

No mention of order of merit. Although I was ranked in top 50 after the assessment. Only detail in the email was the date of the interview next week in Abbey Street and the request to fill in a Garda Vetting form and medical form.

Congrats and the best of luck for next week. I've always thought it would be a fabulous job, anytime I've brought young people up for a tour of the dail, the ushers have been so helpful and informative. They really engage with the youngsters and get them interested in the workings of the houses.

Thanks. The pay is woeful, but its a job. And I could do with the interview experience.

I think the pay is good better than other sectors of public jobs..At least your getting an interview
