Combining running and cross training.

    Last week I started with a personal trainer. First session I had been for a run first and he suggested I finish off with it , so that I could get the most out of his coaching.
    2nd session, I was so trashed I couldnt manage to get a decent run in and the following day my legs were like lead and I felt much slower for my 14 miler.

    I usually run 4 days , or 5 if I can. Im trying hard so that any additional conditioning doesnt replace my runs, and Ideally I would like to get up to 6 days a week.

    Any suggestions how I can manage this? Personal training times are set , and I have to fit in with what is available. So far I have had to take time off work to go.

    Your body will adapt to it though. Always the first few sessions will leave you a bit sore then you won't feel it anymore once the muscles that aren't used to being put through the ringer adapt to it. If you can, I'd do my run a few hours before the session or have a very easy run planned for after the session (I used to run home from strength sessions was a 5ish mile run) then have your rest day the next day. You'll be able to do both the same day soon enough.
