Puraflow pump failed - Again!

The pump on my puraflow system was replaced three years ago. It has died again now. It cost me €450 to get Bord Na Mona to replace it in 2009. His long are these things supposed to last? We were in the house five years when the last pump failed but only got three years out of this one.

The circuit breaker had tripped on the board so I took the pump out of it's chamber and I flushed it with clean water. I placed it in a large bucket of water and had the circuit breaker reset. The pump emitted a humming noise for about ten seconds and then the breaker tripped again. The pump housing was warm to the touch then.

Any ideas? I don't think it's jammed as I could turn the impellor blades by hand.

Check the capacitor with a multi-meter that can check Farads. If this is the problem it is a simple and inexpensive fix.

Thanks but I wouldn't know how to do this. I'm heading towards buying a new pump (€200) and fitting it myself.

You would buy a multimeter and a capacitor for a third of the price of the pump!
