Expired no claims bonus

I've been living in London for the last 4 years because of this i have had no need for a car, however i have been really missing driving so i decided i would buy a weekend car. I was hoping to get a Focus st, fiesta st or a Golf gti, that was until i started looking at insurance quotes, everything from £2000 to £10000  I then checked what it would be like for a 1 litre fiesta and i was getting roughly the same quotes:(

Im 30 years of age and i have a full licence for 6 years, as well as building up a 5 years no claim bonus while living in Ireland. None of this seems to matter though and i feel like i'm 17 again. Anyone been in a situation like this before? Is there anything i can do to get normal quotes?

Have you held a motor insurance policy in your own name whilst living in the uk? If not it only lasts for 2 years non driving which means your going to have to start from scratch unless you've been named on a policy over there and thats taken into consideration.

From my own exp Full licence and age seem to offer little discount in comparison to a full NCB

Cheers i've looked into a bit more and your right i have to start from scratch because i haven't had a policy in the UK, looks like there is no way around it. To be honest i think ill just have to forget about it because there is no way i'm going back to driving a 1 litre car and paying over £2000 for the privilege of it. Its very annoying that all my years of safe driving count for nothing.

It's not just any bog standard 1 litre and that's why it's loaded so high. If you go for your average 1 litre car you'll probably get a more reasonable price but without the fun of a ST or GTI.

Have you checked out Car Clubs? You can choose a car or since your living in London why not just rent something when you want to drive save on fuel, insurance, parking etc

Cheers i have though about that but i think i would probably need the car a few times during the week as well as something a bit more fun drive at the weekends so i'm not sure if it would be practical. I will give it some more thought though.
