I'm starting boxing in college and I am eager to make an impact early. What is the best way to start out, what should I look out for and how do I make sure I box people around the gym early doors? I'm pretty keen to put as much time into the sport as is required, but I what I don't want to do is waste time misdirecting my efforts. Would love some advice from seasoned boxers....

1st off, try lose the ego!!!

then learn the basics and really focus on them-whoever does these best will do the boxing people around..

Ah bit of ego goes a long way. I'll get the basics solid and I'll box the ears of all the other newbs...taking care of bidness.

Pretty obviously just another wind-up artist painting with crayons.

I'm actually genuinely looking for advice, joking around a bit but I am starting boxing. Fairly diving into it when I get going so I just want to get a few points here and there.

Challenge the instructor when you walk in, should work a treat.

This goes for a couple of martial arts so will probably work for boxing.

You aren't going to teach yourself technique so that you can come in and beat around the other people.

If you want to get a head start on preparation before classes start work on fitness, maybe interval training.. Maybe condition the knuckles a bit (knuckle plank or knuckle pushups).

Hey it's the op back again re-regged. Conditioning the knuckles is a good idea? Do I have to develop scar tissue there by hitting hard surfaces? How long does it take?

You clearly don't realise how tough boxing is! Its all well and good day dreaming how your going "box people around" but the reality is a lot different when you step into the ring. I would love to watch your first fight, I'm sure it would be very amusing!!

Well its not easy, I done boxing for three years with a club, still didn't get a fight. My training consisted of skipping, working on the bags, doing press-ups/sit-ups and a lot more of fitness work. I recommend going to a club if you really want to take boxing to the next level

Yes start by conditioning your knuckles OP. spend 10 mins every morning punchIng a concrete wall, do this for 2 weeks. This will work without fail, keep us updated on how it's going

Along with this he might wanna condition his face, i recommend 10 minutes of headbutting the wall after this.
