Now that the good people who operate the Dublin Port Tunnel have seen fit to close it to allow runners to do an under ground 10k do you think there would be a chance of them letting cyclists have a go?

Bit long for a crit, init? 10km or so for a round trip.

Maybe there are access lanes in between, can't remember.

I'd imagine given the reduction in revenues to the NRA that it would need to be associated with a charity to get approval. Plus I would guess that it would be difficult to get the numbers to make it possible (thinking of the return on publicity that they got from the tunnel run in August).

So it would be an uphill battle right there. And lastly, although I'd love to cycle it myself it most definitely isn't the nicest spot in the world to be in! Can get quite stuffy.

    Individual TT perhaps ?

Tunnel closes one or two night per week for 8 hours for cleaning and the last run was on a Sunday morning when there are very few trucks about so the loss of revenue would be minimal.

I just think it would be unique and might be a tourist draw, you can brag about how many times you climbed l'Alpe dHuez but who can say they did an underground 10k TT of a 50K road race.

I might suggest it as part of the Gathering

There was a TT in the Mersey Tunnel at the start of this season won by the British champion Dowsett with our own Ryan Mullen 2nd.A great event by all accounts.

I wonder if they turned the fans up to full blast would it create a suction effect like a perpetual tailwind? :)
