I'm flying with Emirates to Dubai for a stopover soon and I have never flown with the airline nor been to Dubai airport so Im looking for some tips!

I have a stopover of about 3 hours. what can I expect from the airport? should I bother getting any local currency or am I ok paying with cards for anything in the airport?

Are there showers or lounges for those of us travelling in economy in the airport?

Prepare for heat and crowds and yes there are showers for economy passengers. Three hours will fly.

I flew through Dubai in April with Emirates and had a three and a half hour layover there, you'd don't need to buy Emirati Dirhams and the shops and restaurants at the airport accept Euro, I had a quick McDonalds there and paid in Dirhams by Credit Card so no probs.

It is a really huge airport and mental busy at the peak hours of 11pm to 3am, people from every corner of the globe, it was unreal to see. The wifi is pretty crap and I couldn't logon probably due to congestion. I think you have to pay for the shower and lounge facilities. I didn't use them myself. The security queues are very long also so if your connection times are tight you don't want to hang around too long. and try get through security asap before you get into the Duty free and terminal area.

The free showers you wouldn't use!!! You have to bring your own toiletries and towel, theres a hotel in terminal3 and they offer showers($15 I think) and they supply everything and you can take your time, no lounge for economy passengers but you can pay into one I think €30 and you get all food and beer/drink included and stay in there up to 4hours but they usually never ask you to leave.better off sitting in McDonald's or the bar really with only three hours.
