Protect manufacturer car warranty

    Hi,

    I have a 2010 Renault with 3 yrs manufacturers and extra 2 year warrenty on top. With Galway Renault closing in recent months, I'm facing having to head across to Athlone or Tullamore to get the annual service to retain warranty. I happened across this link however:

    ...note the last entry RE 'block legislation'. Is that true? i.e. I cannot legally lose my warranty as long as genuine parts are used?

    Its block exemption.

    It doesn't have to be parts from a main dealer either. Once the parts are original equipment quality(OE) and the car is serviced as per the manufacturer guidlines then your warranty cannot legally be effected.

    That's certainly true for the standard manufacturer warranty however I believe that manufacturers can apply different conditions for those additional warranties. I open to correction on that but get clarifation on it would be my advice.

    Should you have a warranty claim where the car has not been serviced by a franchised dealer, the distributor will (may) ask to see invoices from a registered business detailing the service work carried out and the parts used.

    As stated by @mickdw, extended warranties (insurance policies in effect) may have different T&Cs. You'll need to check the documentation to see for sure.

    There's no such thing as a "Genuine Part" OP. Renault do not manufacture car parts, they assemble car parts that are manufactured by other companies. The use of the word "genuine" is a phrase that main dealers have been using to scare people off having work done outside of their dealership network.

    Also, who ever told you that your warranty is effected by where you get your car serviced??? :confused::confused::confused:

    I think it is the extended 2 year warranty that where this area becomes grey. It will depend on the terms and conditions.

    Thanks all for the replies - reading the small print (and it really is small!), looks like any "repair" work carried out under the warranty must be done by authorised Renault dealer (obviously enough). I'm taking the rest of the wording in relation to retaining warranty to mean that as stated above by several people, as long as its maintained according to the warranty and service sheet, yer ok.
    In terms of the extended warranty (provided via Axa Euro) which runs from 2013 to 2015, it seems to operate under the same terms and conditions.
