The usual scam. Lack of a phone number is a giveaway.

Not that I've any interest in it, but what specifically is the scam?
Amazes me the sites let these ads go up.

Dodgy in the sense the car pictured isn't the car for sale in the details.
Pics look like a genuine S3, I've never seen any other A3 that looks that close to an S3.

Deposit, or payment, up front. It's cheap enough to envoke enough stupidity in some people to send cash in advance in order to secure the deal

It astonishes me the way greed gets the better of people in situations like this.
One of the biggest weaknesses of the human condition.

No way it's a scam, 2006 Audi A3s are selling for €4k all the time.

An '06 high spec A3 with tiny mileage is worth at the very, very least €8k if not more.

Even 6k would be incredibly cheap. The pic has an s3 badge.

You do know this isn't a genuine advert, right?

What are they supposed to do, have someone manually read through and verify every single advert before it hit's the site? That's just not viable, not even on a small scale site.

I see your point, its probably impractical.
But simple validation on entering an ad, such as phone num being mandatory, would have ruled this one out.

The website is only hosting the advert, it is still impractical for them to vet every advert prior to allowing it on the site. They do however investigate and act on reported adverts from viewers about particular adverts.

At the end of the day the person viewing the advert needs to be vigilent and use their common sense. If something is for sale stupidly cheaper than similar items then common sense should dictate that something might not be right. Instead people get blinded by cheap asking prices in search of a bargin, this is how these scams work.

Agree with all of that, but mandatory entry of a valid phone number would go some way to preventing dodgy ads appearing, and would take the site developer all of 10 mins to implement.
You would at least then be forcing them to enter a number in the correct format(s) if nothing else.

    How would that help?

Well people unwilling to enter a number would be ****ed, if they entered a dodgy one it would surface pretty quickly and see the advert removed.

They just enter fake numbers which is what they have been doing also, an interested buyer rings it, they cannot get through so drop the seller an email instead. The seller gives a BS excuse that their phone is dead and then continues the scam via email.
